This zen artist cannot be categorised into a single movement of art. Bodhi Selvam, a spiritual mind, has been on the search for enlightenment- and he claims that his state of zen is to be understood as an experience. His paintings depict Buddha at the very moment of enlightenment, or sambhodi as it is called. The path towards the “roots of the universe” is what enraptured Selvam and his artwork narrates the denouncement of society and societal comforts to achieve Nirvana. This symbolic state represents Selvam’s experience of the world, especially of nature. The halo around Buddha is “the roots of the universe”. Beyond this insightful quest, Bodhi Selvam’s artistic skill and visionary thought processes are what serve to make the paintings compelling.
