T. Vaikuntam

Thota Vaikuntam is an artist profoundly connected to the roots of his past. Steadfast in the face of Western artistic trends, he chooses instead to draw from the vibrant traditions and everyday rituals of rural Telangana. His art celebrates the richness of simplicity, portraying a world where fulfillment is found not in wealth, but in community, culture, and continuity.

What truly sets Vaikuntam apart is his distinct technique. His works are instantly recognizable by their bold, flat colours, usually in rich reds, ochres, and yellows, applied without shading or perspective. He uses strong black contour lines to define form, giving his figures a sculptural, almost temple-like presence. Faces are stylized with almond-shaped eyes, prominent noses, and stoic expressions, drawing from the visual language of Indian classical and folk art.
