Sujata Acharekar

Sujata Achrekar, a figure painter from Mumbai is a student of L.S.Raheja School of Art, Mumbai and Sir J.J.School of Art, Mumbai. She likes experimenting and exploring contemporary forms and techniques that enhance the expressions in her paintings.

The luminous colour schemes and finesse of rendering various techniques of colour application add to the total effect. Her subjects are often taken from Hindu philosophy and mythology, like the Brahmin boys in pursuit of moksha, freedom from reincarnation. Her illustration of life forms with abstract and bright colour scheme adds to the story telling.

Sujata uses acrylic colours for her paintings, and various techniques like scratching, overlapping, scrubbing as well as use of rollers help to add to this effect.

She has received several awards and accolades for her work including National Award of All India Fine Art and Craft. She currently teaches art at Sir J.J.School of Art, Mumbai.
