Sanjiivv Sankpal

Sanjiivv Sankpal is a painter and sculptor who cherishes the Indian yoga and meditation heritage, and finds inspiration in the scenes around him which create a positive impact on his mind. In his creative process, he composes beauty by carefully working on texture, lines, forms, figures and color themes. Sankpal believes that our surroundings are made up of five basic elements – earth, water, fire, air and space – each of which are represented in his compositions through their symbolic forms and colors.
Originating from Nipani, an Indian village in the Kolhapur area (Maharashtra), he has found guidance in his work both from local masters such as Vishwanath Nageshkar and Ravindra Mestry, and from national and international masters such as Manet, Sargent, Gauguin, Matisse, S. H. Raza and M.F. Hussain.
Sankpal has exhibited extensively throughout India as well as in Dubai in 2012. He is the recipient of several prizes, including Best Portrait in the “State Art Exhibition Maharashtra”, 2010; 1st prize for “On the spot landscape competition” from Kala Pushpa Sangli in 1996 – 1997; and Gold medal for outstanding contribution and performance in national and international unity by “Friendship Forum of India, Delhi” in April 2008.
