Mark Rathinaraj

Mark Rathinaraj finds his inspiration from the memories of his childhood days spent at a remote village in the South of India. His artistic expressions are people from daily walks of life. What is common in his works of art be it acrylic, pen and ink, charcoal or sculpture are the calligraphic, evocative and expressive lines. The lines are a part of his journey and have a story to tell too. They almost always begin humbly and progress to thick and confident lines, very much like his career. The art is accessible and easy to understand and enjoy. Strongly influenced by the works of K. M. Adimoolam and the Madras Art Movement, his works are lauded for spontaneity and are an absolute assurance of his individuality and versatility. His brush and the nozzle of his ink bottle have brought to life many spectacular scenes from folksy Tamilnadu, which is a core subject area that he confidently flaunts in his works of art.
His latest works are a tribute to the Performers, people who fill the minds of their viewers with their vitality and spirit. One of his chosen medium is wood carving, which combines nature’s elements with art in the most stunning way.
He has hosted many solo shows and participated in group shows both in India and overseas. He is also promoted by the Asia Art Gallery of Boston, USA.
